Plus jamais seul, Hervé Di Rosa et les arts modestes poursuit le cycle des expositions que La maison rouge consacre depuis son ouverture aux collections privées. Après Arnulf Rainer en 2005 et Jean-Jacques Lebel en 2009, la fondation invite pour la troisième fois un artiste à mettre en regard son travail avec les œuvres et objets qu’il a collectés. Acteur majeur de la Figuration Libre dans les années 1980 et figure incontournable de la scène artistique française, Hervé Di Rosa s’est engagé dès ses débuts dans la reconnaissance et la promotion de l’« art modeste », qu’il définit lui-même comme « proche de l’art populaire, de l’art primitif, de l’art brut » tout en ne s’y réduisant pas. Il a, depuis, rassemblé des quantités de livres, bandes dessinées, fanzines, figurines ou jouets qui infusent sa propre pratique de plasticien, tout comme les œuvres, objets et savoir-faire divers et nombreux qu’il glane lors de ses voyages autour du monde.
L’exposition couvre les développements, pour certains encore méconnus, du travail d’Hervé Di Rosa, de ses débuts jusqu’à aujourd’hui, et mettent en évidence la place centrale des voyages et des collections d’arts modestes dans sa démarche artistique. Ils sont aussi l’occasion de présenter le travail accompli au sein du Musée International des Arts Modestes (MIAM) que Di Rosa a créé en 2000 à Sète, sa ville natale. La profusion des mille objets et œuvres créés et collectés par Di Rosa contribuent à former une exposition à l’image de l’artiste : haute en couleurs, généreuse, touchante, libre, réjouissante, optimiste et pleine d’une vitalité et d’une énergie communicatives.

« Plus jamais seul. Hervé Di Rosa et les arts modestes » continues the cycle of exhibitions that, since its opening, La maison rouge is dedicating to private collections. After Arnulf Rainer in 2005 and Jean-Jacques Lebel in 2009, the Foundation invites for the 3rd time an artist to show at the same time his work and the works and objects he collected.
Major player of Figuration Libre in the 80’s, Hervé Di Rosa commited himself since the beginning to the recognition and promotion of « art modeste », which he defines as « close to popular art, primitive art, art brut » but not identical to them. Since then, he gathered quantities of books, comics, fanzines, action figures or toys which instill in his own practice as a visual artist, as well as the works, objects and « savoir-faire » he gathers along his journeys around the world.
The exhibition includes unknown works of Hervé Di Rosa, from his beginning until today, and highlights the importance of journeys and « art modeste » collections in his artistical approach. It is also an opportunity to present the task accomplished in the Musée International des arts modestes (MIAM – International Museum of modest art) that Hervé Di Rosa created in 2000 in Sète, his birth place. The aboundance of thousand of objects and works created and collected by Di Rosa contribute to give form to an exhibition which reflects the artist himself : colorfoul character, generous, touching, free, rejoicing, optimist and full of a liveliness and an energy that are contagious.
